The Orchid Conservatory, The Majestic Hotel Kuala Lumpur
A Saturday afternoon after a long week called for a self-treat at Majestic Hotel for a fancy afternoon high-tea. The Orchid Conservatory has long been one that I've been meaning for the longest time. Now for those who wish to hop in on the high-tea experience here, it is advisable for you to make reservations at least one month prior to your preferable dates as this place is always fully booked due to its limited tables!
The High Tea experience here at The Orchid Conservatory is also a little to the pricey side as its the only Orchid Conservatory tea lounge in Malaysia! If you're looking for an one of a kind experience then this is the place for you. Who wouldn't want to sip on some hot tea in a room full of beautiful orchids?
Price:

Weekends - RM120 per adult

Atmosphere:
Again the one thing that makes The Orchid Conservatory so special in comparison to other tea houses is that its placed in a room filled with hundreds of orchids. Colourful orchids are placed all over its walls, lighting up the room with a very cheerful vibe - not to mention how the orchids are an all natural air freshener making the entire room smell like you're in a farm of flowers. The Orchid Conservatory is the perfect spot for flower lovers (like myself).

For those who can't really stand cold temperatures, its advisable for you to bring a long a shawl or light jacket/cardigan as the room can get a little chilly at times, especially if you choose to dine in here for awhile (and trust me, you wouldn't be leaving so soon if you were in a room this pretty). Reason being is that, temperatures are adjusted to conserve the orchids - that's they bloom more than ever here!
Experience:
Now to the most important part, the experience. Like I mentioned earlier, The Orchid Conservatory is popular spot for its high tea not so much of its high tea menu but more for its experience of being placed in a totally new environment. Putting its overall atmosphere aside though, The Orchid Conservatory is still an amazing high tea spot and its overall service.
We were served by Sunil, a very friendly waiter who pretty much mended all 7 tables at the Orchid Conservatory. He was always ready to assist us whenever we needed something and even took some shots for us during our experience at the Orchid Conservatory. Hence, the overall hospitality was an A-class here.
High-tea Menu:
1. Choose your preferred tea choice
Image 4: Tea Selection |
Both of us were given a choice to select the tea from a collection of Dilmah's finest teas. We were each given a pot of our selected tea choices to enjoy throughout our High Tea. One teapot consisted of around 4 cups (4 rounds) each. The good thing is that since there's 2 types of tea, we could try each other's tea whenever we got bored of our own tea.
Our tea selection was the Vanilla Flower Tea and the Mango Strawberry Tea. The Vanilla Flower Tea had a more floral taste to it whereas the Mango Strawberry Tea was a more to sweet side. Both were equally good!
2. Scrumptious bites for Starters
Well, its not a must for you to have these bites eaten before indulging in the main high tea tray but it is recommended (by Sunil) that its best for you to eat these first, especially when its still nice and warm. A perfect savoury starter indeed!
3. Three-tier tray of goodness

Now to the best part, the three-tier tray of nothing but goodness. It's best to start indulging from the bottom until the top (but of course you're free to select which you'd like to try first and in whichever order). Why I feel its best to start from the bottom though is because the most bottom tray consist of savoury tastes as well - a smooth transition from the small and savoury bites I had earlier.
The most bottom tray consists of mini buns and sandwiches containing salmon, beef bacon, mustard sauce and ample of lettuce. My personal favourite definitely being the salmon sandwich!
As for the middle tray, a very popular British favourite tea bites - scones. There were 3 scones in total (2 plain scones and 1 with raisins). The scones came with two sides, the strawberry jam and cream - a a standard side to be eaten with scones. The scones were also one of my favourites! Not the best I've tasted, but still towards the top scale.
Now to the top tray. A tray to fulfil your sweet tooth cravings. The top tray consists of all things sweet; a strawberry and cream mousse, madeleine cake, red velvet cake, walnut and carrot cake as well as the chocolate and cheese cake. A little sweet and sugary goodness never hurt no nobody!
4. A glass of apple and honeydew sparkling juice to end our soirée

5. An orchid to take home with you

Conclusion and Verdict:
So, that concludes a very floral High Tea session on a Saturday afternoon. Would definitely recommend this beautiful spot to have a lovely time bonding with friends, family or your significant other over some sweet tea and delectable desserts.
Verdict: 4.5/5
